WE NEED MORE SENSUALITY AT THE OFFICE...

I found a wonderful article in tumbler that articulates all I find unacceptable in our usual working environments and what I am trying to accomplish in my own office building, 265 @ 36.
Olivier Brun, Associate Director of Greenworking and co-founder of eWorky, states:
" Nowadays and most of the time, corporate offices look like sort of information plants. They are cold and inhuman... The materials are smooth, cold and impersonal. It’s also hard to satisfy the sense of touch, all is plasticized, vitrified, industrialised. The skin is not likely to approach any genuine wood, cork or cotton fabric..."

I completely agree with his evaluation that a working environment should be warm and inviting in order to be conducive to creativity. According to Brun, coworking environments favor expression and creation.  Finally, I think as business owners we should all aspire to find the "Passion to create, confidence to communicate."

It's Boneless Thursday...

The most amazing restaurant opened up just down the road from our office - Buffalo Wild Wings. I am not a big fan of chain restaurants and my husband usually does not prefer a restaurant that specializes in chicken, either parts or whole, so we were not very likely customers for Buffalo Wild Wings but one random day, we decided to try it.  Well, ever since I have not been able to stop thinking about it. We loved it. I cannot vouch for the whole menu since we only had wings and onion rings but I think it is worth it to just go for those... Buffalo Wild Wings is a typical sports bar / restaurant with at least half a dozen tv sets and a lively social scene.  It is a fun place with fun food.
Tuesdays are Wing Tuesdays when it is only 45cents a wing and Thursdays are Boneless Thursdays when it is only 55cents a boneless wing... I am planning to get some today.

Family... Home... Career... - You Can Do It All As Long As You Are Devoted

If at any time, one needs a lawyer, it's comforting to know that your lawyer is someone who is capable as well as concerned about you as an individual.    Deitch & Perone, P.C. is one such firm with a warm and caring staff of lawyers who are  experienced in family law, divorce law, personal injury and real estate law. This post is about one of the partners in this firm, a phenomenal woman who has not only been my tenant for the past four years but also a great inspiration for me in going back to school after my kids had started college.

The dilemma of balancing of a career and a family life is a prevalent issue even for today's liberated women.  Some insist we have broken through the glass ceiling but succeeding in your chosen career and taking care of a family can be quite a challenge.  Tanis, who has done it all, home, family and a career in law makes it all look so easy.

Tanis, a resident of West Long Branch since 1973 told me she graduated from Douglass College with a degree in English.  She remarked that only one of her classmates at the time had wanted to become a lawyer, which was met with some amazement. She says "It just wasn't in the thought process..."
Most of her friends went on to become teachers and nurses.  Tanis, who was originally an English teacher, worked as a realtor, property manager as well as volunteering in her community but her dream of going to law school since her daughter was two did not come into realization until her daughter was graduating from high school.  She told me that her family was very supportive and the rest, as they say is history...

I asked her what advise she would give to the young women of today to which she replied,
"You can have it all.  It's not such a hard balance... you have to be single minded and devoted... I did things in sequence, it was good that my youngest daughter was a senior in high school, she encouraged me all the way."
When I asked her what she loves the most about being a lawyer, she said:
"I love the interesting people I work with and I really like best when I can help somebody."
Choosing an attorney is probably one of the hardest things to do, especially if you never needed one before.  There are so many firms and lawyers out there who claim to be the right one for you.  How can one know to find the perfect combination of compassion, experience, commitment and professionalism they would require in dire straits.  Well, with someone like Tanis B. Deitch in the realm, Deitch & Perone seems to be that safe haven for you, in your time of need and I feel very fortunate to have them as tenants here at 265 @ 36.

Transcendental Meditation

Last week Oprah Winfrey was on The Dr. Oz Show talking about how she and her 400 employees use Transcendental Meditation to keep themselves centered.  She says...

" That way of being still with ourselves, coming back to the center and recognizing that something is more important than you, more important than the work you are doing ... brings a kind of energy and an intensity of energy, an intensity of intention..."

We all need that kind of energy, that's for sure.  Well, I have good news.
Transcendental Meditation program of Central Jersey has their office right here in Piker Plaza.

Having an office or even just a little desk here at 265 @ Rt 36 would be such good Karma.
