WE NEED MORE SENSUALITY AT THE OFFICE...
I found a wonderful article in tumbler that articulates all I find unacceptable in our usual working environments and what I am trying to accomplish in my own office building, 265 @ 36.
Olivier Brun, Associate Director of Greenworking and co-founder of eWorky, states:
I completely agree with his evaluation that a working environment should be warm and inviting in order to be conducive to creativity. According to Brun, coworking environments favor expression and creation. Finally, I think as business owners we should all aspire to find the "Passion to create, confidence to communicate."
Olivier Brun, Associate Director of Greenworking and co-founder of eWorky, states:
" Nowadays and most of the time, corporate offices look like sort of information plants. They are cold and inhuman... The materials are smooth, cold and impersonal. It’s also hard to satisfy the sense of touch, all is plasticized, vitrified, industrialised. The skin is not likely to approach any genuine wood, cork or cotton fabric..."

It's Boneless Thursday...
The most amazing restaurant opened up just down the road from our office - Buffalo Wild Wings. I am not a big fan of chain restaurants and my husband usually does not prefer a restaurant that specializes in chicken, either parts or whole, so we were not very likely customers for Buffalo Wild Wings but one random day, we decided to try it. Well, ever since I have not been able to stop thinking about it. We loved it. I cannot vouch for the whole menu since we only had wings and onion rings but I think it is worth it to just go for those... Buffalo Wild Wings is a typical sports bar / restaurant with at least half a dozen tv sets and a lively social scene. It is a fun place with fun food.
Tuesdays are Wing Tuesdays when it is only 45cents a wing and Thursdays are Boneless Thursdays when it is only 55cents a boneless wing... I am planning to get some today.

Transcendental Meditation
Last week Oprah Winfrey was on The Dr. Oz Show talking about how she and her 400 employees use Transcendental Meditation to keep themselves centered. She says...
" That way of being still with ourselves, coming back to the center and recognizing that something is more important than you, more important than the work you are doing ... brings a kind of energy and an intensity of energy, an intensity of intention..."
We all need that kind of energy, that's for sure. Well, I have good news.
Transcendental Meditation program of Central Jersey has their office right here in Piker Plaza.
Having an office or even just a little desk here at 265 @ Rt 36 would be such good Karma.

Life Can Be Different. The Choice is Yours.
I started out this blog with the statement that I wanted to reach out to anyone who dared to dream of doing their own thing and I am discovering the treasure trove I already have in my tenants. I work with a lot of wonderful people and wanted to share their stories here as a way to inspire others to follow their true calling.
One of my oldest tenants, who has had her practice in this building since 1994, is Cheryl Nastasio, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. When I went into interview Cheryl last week, I was hoping to get some background information about her practice and how she got started. What I found out after talking to her is a riveting story of a woman who went back to find her "real calling" after she already had a degree, masters and a career in something else.
I asked her the prosaic question of how she decided to be a therapist and Cheryl very genuinely stated "I was born to be a therapist." It turns out, even though she wanted to get into this field years ago, she was reticent due to her family's encouragement in having a more stable career. So she went to school for business, got an MBA and got a job working in a big corporation. After a while she got her real estate license and found herself helping people with very high stress levels as they made the biggest investment in their lives. All this time she admits to constantly asking herself "Why am I not doing what I should be doing?" Finally, in her forties, Cheryl went back to school full-time, working in real estate on the weekends to put herself through the two year program at New York University to get a Master of Social Work.
Cheryl says she has a very active approach to therapy and she works hard to help people make sense of why they are where they are at that particular moment in their lives. She does individual, couple and family therapy and has certificates in hypnosis, EMDR, Thought Field Therapy, Brain Spotting and is a Substance Abuse Professional for NAADAC.
Cheryl explained her approach with these words:
"I don't know have your answer, I have my own. Somehow you've lost yourself and my job is to help you find your answers, what works for you."
Finally, I asked her if it was all worth it, if she was happy with her choice. She said "I love what I do. I enjoy it, it's not work for me."
Cheryl is the living proof of what she preaches. She chose a different life for herself and took the necessary steps to accomplish it. Now she is helping others do the same with warmth, care and compassion in her cozy office in 265 @ 36.

The Sunset on Route 36
This was the view that greeted me as I made my way home last night. I don't know what it is but the sunsets around here are without compare.

A Beautiful Autumn Day in West Long Branch
It's a gorgeous day out and since I didn't have time to go out for lunch, I took a quick turn around the parking lot. It's so nice to see people playing golf in my backyard. I think I might write today, the sunshine was inspiring. It's much easier to concentrate here where it is quite and I have a nice view.
The office next door to mine is coming along very nicely; we painted in there this weekend and plan to finish up this week. It is really a great space with a Southern exposure (I had plans of turning it into a studio for myself at one point). I hope someone who appreciates such an advantage would be its new tenant. We'll see...

The Perfect Lunch Hour
![]() |
Long Branch |
I decided to spend my lunch hour walking by the ocean today. So, I drove down Route 36 to Long Branch, which is about four and a half miles away. Turned off towards the ocean when I saw Cake Bake & Roll , found a great spot for my car right by the boardwalk... and I was in a totally different world.
Watching the waves, smelling the ocean, I walked and walked for about two and a half miles. After a nice brisk walk I was hungry. Pier Village has some really nice restaurants, today I was in the mood for a gyro so It's Greek to Me was my destination. I had my gyro wrapped to go and savored it on a bench on the boardwalk.
I was back at the office, rejuvenated, pulsing with energy and creativity. I wanted to share my alternative lunch hour. What are you waiting for?
